Art Journal: Godliness Is

I’ve been posting my art journal creations on the Facebook page for #ThrowbackThursday. If you haven’t us checked out on Facebook, I’d appreciate you taking a look. If you like the content, please give it a follow.

Today, our #tbt post is this art journal entry from back in 2021, featuring a quote by Alistair Begg. When I read this quote, I feel challenged to ask myself whether I do, indeed, live “with an all-pervasive sense of God’s presence.” I won’t say I’m actively thinking of God every second of the day. However, since reading The Practice of the Presence of God by Brother Lawrence, I have a better perspective on what it means to live with a heightened awareness of God’s presence.

As I noted on Facebook, stacked stones call to mind a line from a beloved old hymn.  Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing says, “Here I raise my ebenezer…”. An ebenezer is a stone of remembrance. It commemorates God’s help and faithfulness, as shown in 1 Samuel 7:12. Samuel erected an ebenezer to commemorate God granting Israel victory over the Philistines.

Our personal ebenezers are reminders of God’s faithfulness, mercy, and love to us. We don’t normally erect stones to serve as reminders. We do, however, have our memories. When we think about all the times and ways that God has helped us, shown up for us, and cared for us, we realize that we have much to be thankful for.

What are some of your ebenezers? Why not take time right now to give thanks to God for places and situations where you’ve seen Him work in your life?
